Session of First Presbyterian Church

The Session of First Presbyterian Church includes 12 elders plus the pastor.  The Session is the governing body of the church and meets monthly.  Elders are elected for a three-year ministry of discernment and governance. According to the Presbyterian Book of Order, ordained elders “are chosen by the congregation to discern and measure its fidelity to the Word of God, and to strengthen and nurture its faith and life.”  Elders, together with the pastor, “exercise leadership, government, spiritual discernment, and discipline and have responsibilities for the life of a congregation.”  The Session oversees the activities of the Trustees and Deacons and each elder serves as a chair or a co-chair of the committees.

Composition of the Session is 12 members, four elected by the congregation each year.  The Session meets the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. in the social hall.

TRUSTEES

The Trustees of First Presbyterian Church serve under the direction of the Session.  There are six trustees and their responsibilities include financial management of the church’s investment fund and matters related to buying/selling property.

Composition of the Trustees is six members, two elected by the congregation each year.  The Trustees meet on a quarterly basis or as needed.
